Wedding Favor?

I am planning on a fall wedding with colors being mocha brown, chocolate brown, claret(deep red), champagne, and a white/cream/ivory color(haven't decided which but probably cream). I have been trying to figure out favors. So far fiance and I have come up with 3 different ideas. The thing about them is that each would significantly impact the type of wedding we will have; formal, family oriented, or fun/easy-going. Personally, I don't really care which type of wedding I have which is why we are letting the favors decide.

So the three are:

1) Little bottles of olive oil, which would be more formal and lend to a wine-esque theme

2) Jars of homemade jam of some form which would make for a family, home-like atmosphere, more seasonal/possibly paired with dried flowers??

3) Homemade gourmet candy apples which would definitely make the wedding more fun, also more seasonal

Kids will be attending, so maybe one of the first two for adults and the apples for kids.

If you were the guest which one?

Wedding Favor?
I like the idea of olive oil, but for any of your guests that have to travel long distance, it may make packing difficulties unless well-secured against leaks in their luggage. It also isn't child-friendly which you seem to want.

I love jam. Homemade jams especially because of the texture and the full-flavors you can get out of them. Jams would pair much easier with candy apples if you chose one of the former two for adults only.

I also like the idea of trays of home-made candy apples located just as guests leave the reception. Try to pick a good-size apple that isn't too small or too big. The smaller ones may be no more than a mouth, but the bigger ones are messier and harder to eat without ruining clothes (even at home!)

Good luck picking and congrats!
Reply:If I were a guest I'd choose the olive oil first. The only problem is that high quality olive oil is really expensive.
Reply:WOW! I like all those ideas. I guess I would next look at your budget here--the more money you have, the more I go lean towards a more formal theme--it's just easier to pull off with alot of scratch. But, I LOVE the idea of homemade jams, especially in the fall.

What I would do, is go dress shopping. Alot of times, your gown is going to determine how formal you can go with your wedding. Not just the length of the train, but detailing on the gown. Some gowns are just more formal and elegant than others. Maybe also select locations for reception and ceremony--again, those will impact the formality of the event more than the favors would.

I would hold off on the favors for right now--you've got 3 great ideas there. File them away, work on other things and then I think once you've got a clearer picture of your wedding, you won't even have to worry about which favor--it will be automatic, because it will fit right in. But you're on the right track by keeping it something consumable!

Best wishes to you and your fiance!
Reply:The jam or jelly -

You can make wine jelly -

- read the note at the bottom in the comments - that would be a great idea for presentation as a favor if you used small inexpensive wine glasses.
Reply:I like the jam or the olive oil idea. The candy apple thing would be really messy for the kids who are going to be in dressy clothes. As a parent, I would really hate to have my child mess up his dressy clothes with the sticky candy apple.

Have you thought about M%26amp;Ms in your wedding colors?
Reply:How about a white, a dark, and a milk chocolate truffle? People could eat them on the spot and they'd go with your colors.
Reply:I like the jam idea!
Reply:olive oil.
Reply:All 3 are really great ideas and your colors sound beautiful! Man, I would love any of them -- draw out of a hat!
Reply:I'm an adult, and I'd prefer the candy apple!

I think they are a great seasonal addition - and they aren't too casual.

Go with the caramel apples!
Reply:I love the olive oil idea. A friend of mine did something along those lines at her wedding, the guests went crazy. Everyone told her what a great idea that was and because it was home made (with help from friends) it was even more special.

Good luck and best wishes!
Reply:I say go for the candy apples for the kids and make apple jam for the adults....any apple theme:-) congrats and good luck.

someone above mentioned the candy apples would be messy, thats true but the favors are given out at the end of the ceremony so the parents could make them wait till they got home.
