Cherry blossom tree?

i want to plant a cherry tree for mothers day...i have the option of a few sites around the house and was wondering which was best.

the Front garden has the most moisture in it but would likely to get more shade and so possibly more frost in early spring/summer

while the back garden is drier but gets a lot more sunshine and so less frosts...as a choice which would be more suitable or is it pot luck ? I have an crab apple tree in the front for 3 years that flowers quite well. wind permitting

Cherry blossom tree?
Cherry trees do NOT like "wet feet". Is the front ever has drainage problems, I'd pick the back on that basis alone.

Five hours of sun should be sufficient. I also can't imagine a late frost that would be significant enough to cause damage - but also only occuring in the front yard and not the back. Although if you have a spot that suffers from "Prevailing Winds" in the winter, and you are zone 5 or colder, I'd plant where it has some protection from those cold winter winds.
Reply:Prunus (cherry) are hardy things. But I would go for the drier with more sunshine. Some moisture will be ok, I have a prunus in moist soil which flowers well and looks good. You can get a bush prunus if a tree will pose a problem.
Reply:Cherry trees have a very shallow root so they are not ideal in a lawn area as the mower blades will hit them once they establish, also they cast a lot of shade. They also should not be planted against the house as they can cause subsidence. A sunny position is best not in a windy spot.
