Ever had those tiny moths infecting your dry food?

Sometimes they are called weevils. But the look like tiny moths and I cannot get rid of them. I have tried sticks of peppermint gum, ceder ball, bay leaves, and peppercorns. They infect flower, pasta, chocolate, crackers, chips, cornmeal powdered gravy and more. I dont have enough freezers to keep all this food. Buying sealable containers is a major investment.

IF you have successfully dealt with this, please share how you did it.

we had that problem at our old house. we called the orkin man. all he did was set up traps and it was amazing how much the bug population decresed in just a week. about 3 weeks after the traps were set we through out all the food that had had moths in it to avoid more hatching. it wasnt long before they were all gone
Reply:Try checking around at thrift shops and second-hand shops [don't know where you live, but we have both Good Will and Salvation Army thrift shops] for sealable containers - just tight lids will do it, they don't have to be high-priced or fancy. I keep cornmeal in the fridge, but everything else [flour, mixes, rice, etc.] is in old plastic tubs I've squirreled away. Nothing else works that I've found. Make sure and throw out ALL the groceries you've got with any hint of a 'resident' and replace with new ones as you find tubs for the new products. Weevils are tiny black critters--the other ones we call 'mealybugs' which will develop into little moths. All are disgusting, right? Try the thrift-shops! Have a throw-out party! Buy new stuff as and when you can...good luck!
Reply:The best way to deal with those nasty little bugs and worms that tend to be in our food is to store the dry packaged food in the freezer. If you buy 10 pounds of flour for example, put it in the freezer for at least 3 days. Store cake mixes in the fridge, they will never get wormy or buggy.
Reply:My mom thinks it's from food that is really really old that's been sitting in the cabinets a long time, and when you buy food from the store that has had a long shelf life, because alot of that stuff is imported. She told me to throw it out it's no good. I don't really have that problem in my apartment but I periodically look at boxed and packaged stuff just to make sure if it's been sitting a long time.
