OK, i moved to Florida, and it gets Hot, and right now from what i understand, we have draught conditions (coulda fooled me with the downpoors ive seen, wow!)
Im looking for some pretty flowers that can deal with direct sunlight most of the day , until eveningish (6pmish) and can deal with Hot dry conditions. I can water them, but i already know, it will slip my mind on more then once occasion. Please, use common names, I can look up the scientific name, but a normal name is easier for me to remember ^_^ and easier for me to pull up pictures to see if that flower will work. Thanks in advace for any help!!
Direct sunlight flowers?
poppies... they dont love heat but dont mind dry and sunny.. If its getting above 80 then might be to hot, you could plant them in the winter time...
Reply:this one needs lots of water, but it only grows in humid hot sunny places. this is a canna, should be evergreen all year, but if it doesnt it will come up in the spring. amazing flowers
also maybe a yucca. they do take water. one place that has cactus is really humid and gets lots of rain, and they do fine.
Reply:My front yard flower bed here in Nasville get sun from sunup to sundown....it gets hot and last year we had a drought.....
..so this year I'm trying Indian Blanket Flowers (gaillardia)
They look like brilliant colored daisies...the soil can be crappy (in fact they prefer soil that's not too fertile) tolerate drought and heat...they do need full sun..and make gorgeous cut flowers...just don't plant 'em too close to avoid powdery mildew and make sure there's good drainage...they don't care for 'wet feet'....they are a native wildflower common to the mid west.....good luck and happy gardening!
Reply:Try portulaca. It is considered a moss, but works well in drought condition and direct sunlight. It blooms all summer long and has beautiful, vivid flowers. It is an annual, but mine reseeds itself each year with no problem. I've included a link below to speed up your research!
