What kind of grass is this?

I have some rapidly spreading grass in my yard, and it grows very thick. it seems to be in small tufts and has small purple flowers with it. it doesnt grow tall at all, but very thick like carpet. it actually makes footprints if you stand still too long. i dont know if it is even grass, or maybe some kind of invasive weed. i kind of like it however, because it is very thick and bright green, and i dont have to mow it hardly ever. it is spreading throughout my yard. it has been very dry this year, and it is growin rapidly, in the sun, in the shade, nothing seems to matter. i just want to figure out what it is, i might try to transplant it to other areas in my yard if it is actually grass. i have pictures available to send if someone could tell me what this stuff is.

What kind of grass is this?
Wild lavendars spread with hallimon grain. The kind of

grass is not permanent. It is a migrant heading to higher

elevations. This gathers along the roads of the highest

elevation of an area. Then it is tramped into larger areas

and is relative to hay. These wild grain families move

through and it is difficult to say how long, if along a pond it

can be indefinite.
Reply:I am unsure what your weed is without a better discription. Here is a good link to descriptions and photos of common lawn weeds and weedy grasses. I am suspecting though that you have an infestation of crab grass which gets its name from being a very invasive weed grass. It grows in tufts that are very low to the ground and branch out spreading from the mother plant in a radius and so on and so forth until it forms a carpet, and it can have purple flowers, all though they shoot up on a long stem. I am certain you can find the weed you are dealing with on this website:

Upon looking at the pictures if you decide your weed looks like the yellow nutsedge in the picture on the site, then it very well could be, considering there is also a purple variety of nutsedge.
Reply:Is it Filaree or Speedwells? Both gets small pinkish purplish flowers and spread fast, just about anywhere. Both are weeds, by the way. I am thinking maybe it is Filaree. It grows as a rosette and flat to the ground. I see this in my garden, too, and it has a strong roots under it.
