I'm going to paint flower pots, so what do I use as an over-coat when the paint dries to make it look glossy? Preferably not something expensive. Thanks in advance.
What do I use to make painted objects have a glossy look.?
You can use Mod Podge over the paint or shellac the pots. White glue such as Elmer's also dries clear and shiny.
Have fun with it!
Reply:Laquer. It comes in a spray too, not expensive at all.
Reply:not sure if its the right thing..but i use varnish
Reply:go to Wal-Mart or Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. There is clear gloss coat in the spray paint section.. the back of the can will show how many square feet each can should cover.
Reply:Glossy varnish. You can buy it at a craft store with the acrylic paints ....or you can go to a home improvement store or to a department store and buy a spray varnish and spray it. You may want to spray it a couple times a year to keep it in good shape. If you did not use "outdoor paint and/or seal the pot before painting you may have problems with it peeling. Personally I like Satin over glossy. So you may want to experiment.
Reply:Varathene, it is a protective top coat - comes in glossy, or high gloss.
Reply:Its called acrylic spray. $8 at Walmart.
You may want extra coats for a flower pot do to the fact that ceramics absorb moisture like its nobodies business.
Reply:You can use clear acrylic spray or a sealing glaze...it gives objects a nice glossy look just like you are looking for...I have used in on many projects that I have painted...including flower pots...just make sure you spray it outside! Don't remember how much a can cost, but I am pretty sure it is under 10 dollars...you can get it at any craft store...or wal mart. I have also used something called Master Shine...really nice and glossy...
Reply:Gloss varnish.
Reply:Lacquer.
Reply:I USE GESSO,TYPE OF CLEAR COAT FOUND AT WALMART .6$ .BRUSH OVER AREA DRIES CLEAR IN 30 MINUTES.FIND IN CRAFT AREA.IVE PAINTED POTS TOO,THIS PRODUCT SHOULD DO 75 MEDIUM TO LARGE WORKS.STUFF GOES ALONG WAY.IM A CRAFTER,ACRYLIC ARTIST...
Reply:You can use spray on varnish, paint on varnish or gloss medium. This all depends on whether the paint is oil based or acrylic. Also, if the flower pot will have a plant in it and get wet, you need to waterproof the inside. Ask at a professional (house)paint store.
