What do I do with my flower bulbs?

I found some dead iris' that someone dug up, and the bulbs were still attatched. I snapped some of them off. What can I do with them now? Do they need to be dried? If so, how long, and is there anything else I should do? If I plant them in a pot for indoors, can I do it as soon as they're dry? I guess I need all the steps. Also, the roots are still attached.

Oh lucky you!! I would love to find some Iris bulbs!! Anyway, do not let them dry out. Plant them now and they might come up since it's warm outside but they won't flower this season. Be sure to let them grow their green leaves if they do come out and don't cut them back just because they don't flower. The green leaves that come up are how the plant makes food for the bulbs for the winter time. This is why you should never cut back the green after the flowers have bloomed and died out. The green leaves should be left until they turn brown and die back because this is the plant's way of making and storing food for the cold winter and the next growing season. You can also mulch over the bulbs if you live where the winters are really cold. Good luck and enjoy your "find" especially next spring!!
