Hi, I am going to be making a couple of cakes in the next couple of months, and I do decorate already, I can make flowers ( with gum paste, royal icing or icing usually) but I want to make some animals or other little figures, and I am wondering if anyone can tell me which is better for making animals, what the consistency is like, and if they dry hard because I want to make them ahead of time. Any details will be appreciated, Thanks :D
Question about making marzipan and fondant animals?
Marzipan is traditional for little figures and animals. Because it has almond paste in it, it's a little moister because of the fats. Fondant will get dry and hard to eat over time. Marzipan will remain edible. You can make your little figures and freeze them until you need them (be sure to keep them completely sealed until they come to room temp so they don't sweat though).
