Ounce question?

i'm studying aromatherapy and i have to learn to make my own oils and it says to use 1 ounce of fresh flowers or 1/2 ounce for dried how much would that be exactly cause none of my utencils say ounce or my measuring cup so how am i supposed to know?

Ounce question?
I think that you are attempting to make an infusion. I also think that accurate measurement is a very important part of using essentials oils and should be addressed early in the education. If you are indeed making an infusion, you will be using measurements of weight and volume. The ounces of flowers are weight. The ounces of base oil are volume. Kitchen utensils for baking will have units of volume measurement. If you are ordering your dry plant material, you should be able to order by weight. If you are picking your own, you will need to use a scale to weigh your flowers if you are unsure of your judgement. Scales can be inexpensive and may be worth it if you are serious about blending. If not...your post office may have a scale in the lobby.
Reply:If weight is important... look into buying a scale.

You can find postal scales that are relatively inexpensive. For example, Costco had a digital postal scale for $25 to $30. It could weigh up to 5 lbs and had a resolution of 0.1 ounces.
Reply:you need to get a measuring device that has ounces
Reply:You really need to get a scale for that. Any kitchen scale will work. Digital are easier to read (and probably more accurate) and they're not expensive. $20-$25 can get a good one.

Don't be fooled by the 8oz = 1 cup theory. Test it when you get your scale...you'll see that the weights aren't the same. (for example a cup of cocoa powder really only weighs a few ounces.) It all depends on the density of what is being weighed.
Reply:there are 16 tablespoons in a cup

2 tablespoons in one ounce

hope this helps
Reply:0ne ounce equals 1/8th of a cup, or if i am right a table spoon.

4 oz in 1/2 cup
Reply:go somewhere like bed, bath and beyond and get a kitchen scale. i got a really nice digital one for under $25. you's be amazed how much use it gets, especially when trying to convert european measurements. anyway, you can wigh in ounces, pounds, kilograms, etc.
