My flowering cherry tree is dieing, the leaves are drying out and falling of any advise ?

you havent said how old the tree is, but if it is a newly planted one this year then it is probably due to lack of water, soak it really well everyday and see what happens other than that if it is an old tree it could just be rotten i guess

water it more.
Reply:It sounds as if the tree may have Silver Leaf disease.

Are any of the branches starting to die back?

If not then it might be a heavy infestation of aphid.

If you are in the UK then we can probably rule out extreme drought.

This page will tell you how to confirm Silver Leaf.

Reply:Is this the whole tree or only 1 branch. I know that with Nanking Cherry trees, once in a while throughout the season, a branch will suddenly wither and die. It has to be sawed off and removed. The rest of the tree is healthy. In spring, there will again be a dead branch or two to be removed.

Just water, and fertilize. Fall is coming and you may be losing a few leaves, but it probably is either suffering from being under-watered, or there may be herbicide spray in the area that harmed it.
Reply:dig a trench around the perimeter at the edge of the branches...put some good fertilizer in the trench and water it in very well...keep an eye on it and be careful not to touch any of the roots with the fertilizer or you will burn the roots and kill it...you may need to start all over and be more careful in treating it...if it's an older tree, you will still have to start over if you want that kind of tree...sometimes it's too late to fix it...
Reply:Due to the weather we have had this year in the UK it could be that it is due to the fact that the roots might be lying in water.

If the soil is very well drained it could be drought.

If the tree is more than 30 years old then it would probably be coming to the end of its life span.

Could it be competition from other trees, lack of light

The leaves falling off at this time of year is not a good sign. Give us some more info.

Please feel free to email me for any info /advice on this matter.
