Is anyone having trouble with their Becky Shasta daisies?Mine are wilting even with all the watering.?

Some of my plants look sick..I have some new ones and some divisions from last year,,This is one of my favorite perennials,,and hate this happening.Does anyone know if they are diseased and should be pulled out.The flowers are smaller and the leaves are turning yellow. It has been a dry hot summer,,but I water properly.

I have a huge perennial garden, and these are the only plants that seem affected this year.

MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE

Shasta daisies are generally easy to grow but have a few problems. one of these is gall, a disease that causes root crowns to split into many week, poorly rooted growing plants that soon die. dig out and discard affected plants and do not replant shastas in that same spot again.

when buying plants, avoid those with signs of fasciation (flattening or widening of stems) near root crown. set out container-grown at any time, divisions in fall or early spring. divide established clumps every 2 or 3 years.

easy to grow from seeds %26amp; catalogs offer many cool strains, from super giant singles to frilly dwarf doubles. most like some light shade during the hotest part of the afternoon.

if these are giving you a hard time, dump 'um and get yourself some new plants. you deserve to be happy with your garden.
Reply:The intensity of the sun will wither your plants. Are they exposed to the hottest hrs? Some need sun with more shade~filtered light.
