I would like to replant my tulip bulbs from one place to another, ut i am not sure when the best time to do it and how to do it - do I cut the leaves off just after they flower? do I wait untill they due off themselves? how do I dry the bulbs? can they be exposed to sun for very long????
Thank you in advance for your advice...
How and when do I replant my tulips?
I have over 200 tulips in my front beds, and this is how I handle them. Let them bloom and leave the leaves as they are. As the leaves turn really ugly and start dying off, you can trim them down to just a couple of inches. Wait till Fall, then gently dig up your bulbs. Separate the ones that have smaller bulbs growing on them. In the new location, I would add compost material, turn the soil over well, then plant your bulbs. You can get a good quality fertilizer made for transplanting. Cover the bulbs with soil and give them a good watering. Come next spring, you'll have a great bed of tulips. Once you have them in the new location, you'll probably want to dig them up every three years to separate the new bulbs.
Reply:Let the foliage die naturally as it provides nutrients to the bulbs. Dig and replant in Sept or Oct.
See source for detailed planting instructions
Reply:When the Season is over and they die
back is the best time to transplant. Check
with your local Agriculture center they have
pamphlets on such topics!!
