Help with gladiaolas/?

ITS MY FIRST YEAR TO GROW GLADIOLAS,AND THEY HAVE DONE BLOOMED,I TOOK OF THE DRIED UP PARTS WHERE THE FLOWERS DRIED UP,BUT NOW THE STALKS ARE STILL THERE AND NO MORE FLOWERS.WHAT ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS,DO I CUT HE STALKS?LEAVE THEM ALONE?ANY INFO WILL HELP!I AMAN AVID GARDENER,BUT LIKE I SAID ITS THE FIRST TIME FOR GLADIOLAS.

Treehugger is correct. Glads are like any other flowering bulb plant. They require the natural dying down of the foliage to store energy for next year's growth. Actually, this is true for caladium,(elephant ears), as well. Tulips, daffodils, etc.



Gladiolas are lovely, they are my birth flower, and my Grandma used to bring them to me every year for my birthday. Unfortunately, like tulips and daffs, they only bloom once per year.
Reply:cut the stalks down to the leafy part after blooms gone
Reply:let the stalks dry and turn yellowy brown, this will ensure good strong healthy bulbs for next year.

if you cut the stalks while still green you will not have blooms next year, the strength from the stalk needs to return to the bulb
