Can someone help me identify a plant please?

The plant grows about 2.5 ft tall, variegated leaves. Spreads over and below ground. The leaves are similar to ivy and it has purple flowers. It seems to thrive in dry soil.

I think my mum called it something sounding like glinka.

Can someone help me identify a plant please?
Are you sure, she didn't say Vinca? There are several kinds. We have one, grows a little lower, leaves are dark green, stays green even in the winter, flowers blue in the spring.
Reply:It is definately a Vinca. Lovely plant, I have it growing up my shed. Got it as a wee seedling three inches high and it is now 10ft by 4 feet.
