What flowering plants would be best suited for a very hot dry climate?
Yarrow is good as is purple cone flower and black eyed susans. For hot/dry climates
Reply:Orchids are good, and there is a huge range of these plants. Bromeliads are good because they have beautiful flowers, and thrive in a hot climate. Cacti and Succulents. Your local garden center will have suitable choices.
Reply:Try zinnias. I stopped watering my yard one summer and the relentless sun baked everything to a crisp except the zinnias. I believe the temp was in the 90's and humidity about 45%
Reply:I have had great success with the Vinca. It is an annual, but it does very well in very hot weather. I also like a plant called Blue Haze(or Daze)....I can't exactly remember what its called(although I know it is one of the two), but you can barely water the thing and stick it in aweful soil and it will grow like crazy. It has tiny blue flowers that grow on it. Begonias also do pretty well as long as you keep the soil moist. I have day lilies that grow like crazy around my house as well. These are perenials and are bulbs. These things are tolerant little suckers too. The ones I have bloom in late June. I actually have a couple of rose bushes, believe it or not, that seem to do excellently in the Oklahoma heat during the summer. I just make sure to water them every few days. I also got them at walmart....so you know if walmart can grow them, the things must be pretty tolerant! Good luck!
Reply:marigold dwarf variety ,periwinkle ,zinnias ,hibiscus for lovely red colour, glardia, tuberoses do well in hot climates
Reply:I live in the arizona desert where the temps can reach up to 124+ The temps so far have been 102F and I have growing right now, Zinnas, gallardia, babys breath, sunflowers, coreopsis, salvia, vinca, african daisy, dianthus, Lantana. All these will survive my summer with watering everyday even when the temps reach over 120F.

Good luck!
Reply:TRY SOME BONSAIS, EASY TO MANAGE.
Reply:Try Delosperma-Ice Plant. These bloom all summer in masses if deadheaded and they love heat and require very little water.

Also, a perennial that comes back year after year!
Reply:All forms of cactus, they have some of the most stunning flowers and are soooo easy to look after.

Good Luck
